The Mactan Electric Company( MECO) revealed that
Mactan island( LapuLapu City and Cordova town) will experience
power outages due to decrease of power supply transmission.
MECO general manager Engr. Gilbert Pagobo admitted this
to media as one of the two transmission lines of the National Grid
Corporation of the Philippines( NGCP) got cut off during the digging at
the crossroads of Ouano Avenue in Mandaue City(ongoing intersection
construction proceeding to Fernan bridge).
“The incident may cause series of brownouts and this will
also increase power rates by P2 per kilowatt hour,” Pagobo said. The
capacity left is 180 megawatts and the demand is more.
MECO has a total of more or less 110,000 household
consumers and 600 industrial consumers, most are locators of Mactan
Economic Zone( MEZ) 1-3 in LapuLapu City.
The Municipal Council of Cordova through Vice Mayor
Boyet Tago expressed worries about the power supply crisis.
The council has urged the NGCP, Energy Regulatory
Commission( ERC) and Department of Public Works and
Highways(DPWH) to shed light on the incident. Tago said they will
request Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia’s intervention.
This is very alarming as Mactan island being a tourist haven.
It is host to our beaches and more than 200 foreign companies. And
even the Mactan Cebu International Airport(MCIA).
MANDAUE CITY CLEARED OF DANGLING/ SPAGHETTI
WIRES— The local government of Mandaue City said it has cleared of
dangling and spaghetti wires on two major roads along A. Del Rosario
Street and S. B. Cabahug Street.
Mayor Jonas Cortes has ordered clearing operations on
dangling and spaghetti wires in the city. This is to clear the view of
closed circuit television( CCTV) cameras since most spaghetti wires
blocked the view of the cameras. It will also prevent cable wires from
being stolen and to beautify the city roads.
MACTAN AIRPORT SWITCHES ON FUEL HYDRANT
SYSTEM(FHS)– Mactan Cebu International Airport(MCIA) and GMR
MEGAWIDE Cebu Airport Corporation( GMCAC) commissioned its
Fuel Hydrant System(FHS) at the Terminal 2. GMCAC Director Rafael
Aboitiz said ” Being the second busiest gateway in the country,we see a
significant increase in the air traffic at MCIA,making it imperative to be
able to turn around more aircraft while operating the airport, safety and
efficiently. With the FHS, fuel delivery rates to the aircraft are increased
considerably with reduced ground support movement and increase
availability of aircraft stands.”
The commissioning of the FHS ensures safe and efficient
operations at MCIA allowing for an increased fuel delivery rate to the
aircraft,a systemized fuel inventory management and fewer ground
support equipment movements. The FHS was put in place in
partnership with Petron Corporation providing the fuel storage facility
and fuel supply.
While MCIAA general manager and CEO Julius Neri Jr.
explained ” The FHS is a milestone for the MCIAA as it enables us to
turn around more aircraft faster. The resulting efficiencies and
increased capacity are very timely as our soon-to-be finished second
runway will certainly benefit from it as well. This would help position
Cebu as the premier tourist destination and transit hub in the country.”
The FHS ensures simplication with easier fuel
management, inventory control,built-on leak detection, and compliance
with safety and environmental regulations.
