
Department of Transportation (DOTr) Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez presided over the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)’s Traditional New Yearโs Call in Manila today, January 21, 2026.
During the event, Coast Guard officers reflected on the past yearโs achievements and set the outlook for the year ahead, while reaffirming their commitment to safeguarding the Philippinesโ maritime interests and strengthening unity and camaraderie within the organization, anchored on the โBagong Pilipinasโ vision of President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr.
In his speech, Acting Secretary Lopez emphasized the importance of providing the PCG with the resources, infrastructure, and policy support to effectively fulfill its mission.
โAs the PCG steps into 2026, the organization commits to forging a Coast Guard worthy of a Bagong Pilipinasโstrong, resilient, world-class, and forever devoted to the Filipino nation,โ he furthered.
Following the presentation of the PCGโs 2025 accomplishments through an audio-visual presentation, Acting Secretary Lopez spearheaded the oath-taking ceremony of the PCG Promotion and Administrative Boards.
PCG Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan PCG, together with his spouse, Philippine Coast Guard Nursing Service Chief Nurse, Commodore Lysamyra Marie Gavan PCG, and other senior PCG officers also attended the event.
